It's already taking a magical hold. My asana (physical) practices have had such clarity, so much so that I totally traveled to another astral plane during the most insane long deep back bend. When it seemed like too much to take I whispered acceptance to myself - I accept, I accept. I was slingshotted to another realm where time did not exist. It was utterly divinely bonkers. I stayed in a hazy white sphere for the rest of class. It's something I haven't experienced in quite some time. I felt no aversion or attraction to anything, was massively content and had that washed over feeling like I could have held any pose for the rest of eternity.
It was ACCEPTANCE. It was YOGA.
It has been roughly nine years since I first practiced yoga and about four years since The Yoga Emporium was born. It continues to evolve and change, just as I do, just as we all do. Yoga is who I am, not as a mind-created identity but as a way of life. It's my divine connection to the universe and all beings, a way of living and a way of dying. When I first began practicing, I couldn't reach the ground or straighten my legs or use my spaghetti arms for anything strength related. I didn't know about self-awareness or god, presence or true true love.
Yoga has changed the way I live my life in every capacity. The way food tastes, the way kisses feel, the way I deal with pain and joy - yoga has transformed it all beyond measure.
Yoga is a practice. It's not a dogma. In religion people might tell you how it is and you believe it or you don't. In yoga, you know it because you experience it. It's a wisdom tradition, a practice and a journey. It can't be lived in a book.
My wish for you for my 29th birthday is that you test the yogic waters. That you too dive deep into the practice without judgement and with full curiosity. I don't want anything else at all. I simply want everyone to practice yoga. Is that too much to ask? Maybe I'll blow out some more candles and see what happens next.
Let everyday be a new beginning. Even if it's not your birthday, say a prayer and set some intentions to live by. x
